Produce of India: Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh are the major Ashwagandha producing states of the country. In Madhya Pradesh alone it is cultivated in more than 5000 hectares.
History: Ashwagandha is widely used in Ayurveda. Ayurveda is one of the oldest full health systems globally, and its roots are in India. Ashwagandha has been known for thousands of years to relieve stress and anxiety and promote overall wellness. The plant itself is a small flowering shrub, but its power is the Ashwagandha root. The meaning of ashwagandha in Sanskrit is “smell of the horse”.
Active Ingredient: Sitoindosides and acyl steryl glucosides in Ashwagandha are anti-stress agents. The Active principles of Ashwagandha, for example the sitoindosides VII-X and Withaferin-A, have been shown to have significant anti-stress activity.
