Produce of India: Moong production in the country is largely concentrated in these states Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Bihar. These states together contribute about 70% of total moong production in the country.
History: The moong dal popularly known as the yellow split dal (without skin) is an edible pulse. It is rich in protein for vegetarians. It is a pod shaped vegetable widely grown as a cool season vegetable crop. The mung bean is thought to have originated from the Indian subcontinent where it was domesticated as early as 1500 BC. Cultivated mung beans were introduced to southern and eastern Asia, Africa, Austronesia, the Americas and the West Indies. It is now widespread throughout the Tropics and is found from sea level up to an altitude of 1850 m in the Himalayas .
Active Ingredient: Green gram is the powerhouse of antioxidants including phenolic acids, flavonoids, caffeic acid and cinnamic acid. These antioxidants help to counteract the harmful effects of free radicals and fight oxidative damage of cells.
