Produce of India: Punarnava is wildcrafted from organic-certified forest regions of Madhya Pradesh in Central India. It grows wild in both India and Brazil but dries out during the summer months to come back to life a few months later.
History: It is one of the oldest oriental medicines mentioned in Ayurveda as a potential remedy for various ailments. The whole plant is rich in glycosides, steroids, flavonoids and also contains various polyphenolic compounds.
In Sanskrit, Punarnava means to “bring back to life,” or “renew,” because the ancients observed that a dry, dead Punarnava plant could suddenly spring to life. The roots are also used in traditional panchakarma procedures to relieve minor pain.
