Produce of India: In India at present Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Tamil-Nadu, Kerala and Gujarat these five states have started its production. Kutch is the largest producer of date palm in India.
History: Dates have been cultivated since ancient times from Mesopotamia to prehistoric Egypt. The ancient Egyptians used the fruits to make date wine and the dates at harvest. Date palms fare best in tropical and subtropical regions. Harvesting fruit from a date palm tree is a labor-intensive process that can take 7-10 years. Wind pollinates date palms naturally, but to ensure an adequate yield, growers must pollinate each palm by hand.
Active Ingredients: Dried dates are a good source in Magnesium, calcium, Iron, Potassium. It is also rich in polyphenols. Date fruit is rich in phytochemicals such as carotenoids, polyphenols (e.g. phenolic acid, isoflavones, lignans and flavonoids), tannins, and sterols.
